It is me on Shadow Wall Carreg Wastad! photograph Ali Smigova
I went to Wales with Lynne, Ali, Mike, Pete and Haley. A weekend that was a regular trip in the late 70s and 80s. It was fun to do a couple or routes feeding off the excitement of some younger people who were doing them for the first time. We decided to camp
in Llanberis pass outside the Climbers’ club hut. It is a privilege to camp there – no one else is allowed to camp in the pass – I persuaded everyone to get up at 6:00am and start climbing before 9:30 expecting it to be very crowded. In fact even with perfect weather the Wasted was not overrun with people. We all did Crackstone Rib, Ali and I did Shadow wall. Pete and I did the Lion. I tried to organise everything and did not get it quite right I will improve with practice! Sunday night it rained and the wind got up to 30 mph the effect on a family tent was obvious but fun! It rained on Sunday morning but we sat it out. Haley suggesting some retail therapy. I spent a hundred pounds on climbing gear and the sun came out. We headed for Lower Pen Trwyn four routes later I was happy. It is a surreal experience climbing on a sea cliff and hearing the music from Llandudno pier.
