A grey January day

A high-pressure system with a lot of cloud greeted us this morning. Lynne felt bad and I wanted us to go out. We prevaricated, so neither of us knew what the other wanted to do.

The matter was resolved when Judy arrived. A tour around Bakewell was planned. Four miles into the journey I realised I had made an error of judgement. We passed the cafe in Elton that is given the highest star rating in the Peak by Lynne and Judy. My “it is too early for lunch” statement received no response. The Cafe was heaving with jovial cyclists and motorcyclists that had had a hard morning’s work that was being amply rewarded with food, drink and a nice coal fire. We were impostors. Three quarters of an hour later we started our fifth mile!

On the other hand we had a good afternoon session and completed nearly twenty five miles on quiet roads being passed my tractors with attached muck spreaders. The end of January is a peak period for muck spreading. I am ashamed to say I quite like the smell.

We got back to the house to watch an impressive sunset.

  1. Not an error of judgement! Not possible. Just enjoyed our three way conversation with Stephen in New Zealand.

  2. Nice picture – you need a healthy dose of pollution to get a sunset like that, only cloud based ones here!
