Hope - Roman Road - Edale - Castleton

Castleton Cement Factory incongruous or what?

Beautiful day, beautiful scenery and a great cycle ride but what is this cement factory doing here in a National Park that serves millions of people.

This just happens to be the most popular and spectacular bit of the Peak district and hence the most crowded. In the Sequoia National Park in California they are removing hotels close to the trees. So why do I have to put up with this view?

It is quite likely that everyman and his dog has noticed that you see buzzards in the Peak District nearlly everytime you go out. I have only just noticed!

The descent, described in the guide as descending directly towards the cement factory. What is the betting the cement factory will not be there in ten years time? Posted by mikec at September 14, 2003 10:20 PM

As I'm planning a first trip to the Hope area on Monday I appreciated the photos - enough to make me ignore the weather forecast. thanks! :-)
