A jet Lagged Rant

The Hotel

Is it a good idea to get up at 4:00 am the day after the term finishes to start a 20 hour journey to get to Miami?

The hotel theme is cars of the 50s

There were times when we had our doubts. The first was on the flight, ten hours is a long time; I put on the earphones, discovered a Salsa station, turned it up loud and read. This had the desired effect of drowning out a lot of the distractions. Turbulence prevented total boredom.

The Steward brought some green forms for us to fill in so we would be allowed to enter the US of A. The wording of American immigration forms is a joke that Frank Zappa took the piss out of many years ago. It still made us howl when we had to put ticks in boxes to say we had not been involved in espionage and that we had not been a member of the Nazi party. What are the point of these questions?

The flight was not a problem apart from its length. The hour and a quarter waiting in the queue for immigration was particularly frustrating as when we reached the front of the queue we lost our place in the queue as Lynne had failed to complete her form correctly! This should have caused the rest of the family amusement as Lynne is the master of form filling, it is part of her job. It did not cause amusement as we had been travelling for 14 hours and were a wee bit tired.

Our Hotel

We left the airport and took the best part of two hours to drive thirty odd miles as we drove around the Miami area looking at the buidings – very large and shiney with exotic Christmas directions. Our hotel is as I was told when booking it. Functional in a quiet location – quiet for Miami the american car theme grows on you. It has to be as we ate our evening meal sat in one!
