Snow

Filed under: General — Mike Chapman @ 10:43 pm

We left Lincoln with an inch of snow, the perfect white type that stays on the trees. The Peak Distict had a lot less snow but it had a frosty look and was suitably cold. On Thursday Judy and made the best of the wather and went on our bikes to the place that is pretiest in such conditions, the top of the woodhead pass.

Christmas day 2005

Filed under: General — Mike Chapman @ 7:49 am

This year we were in Padfield rather than Miami but we did similar things. We went for a walk (last year it was the Everglades) and had a picnic lunch. This year it was in a sheep barn, last year was in the car park. This year we forgot the party hats.

Lunch in the barn above the Derwent- Grindle Clough

The barn has a bench that is beautiful. There are ceramic tiles on the walls with pictures of animals and poems produced by the local children with help from an artist working in a Bamford Junior school. It was especially pleasant with the winter sun streaming in.

We then walked up to the top that has the view that I have used on the banner for this weblog.

Sunrise on the way to Swineshaw resevoirs

I chose not to celebrate with the staff at the end of term, I lacked the energy. It did mean I got to bed early and I was on my bike with enough time to see the sunrise from high above Tintwistle. I think it was the shortest day or thereabouts. (more…)

Yorkshire Sculpture Park just as the sun set. Unreal colours!

It has only just dawned on me that it is so much easier to take good photographs on a sunny December day than one in June or July.

Three weeks to go

Filed under: General — Mike Chapman @ 8:55 pm

I have 3 more weeks of work this year. 3 months after kneeling down while mending our patio I can run and walk properly. Things are looking up! Lynne and I cycled when it looked like flooding the Peak. We only got a little wet and the views were good. Our fitness was a problem.

The road past Strines and around to Lower Bradfield with the best Post Office lunch stop in the world – well I think so!
